ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrival day.
We arrive in Sao Paulo, where you will be meet and greeted and transferred, via shuttle bus to our accomodation for the evening, Comfort Hotel Guarulhos. If possible (depending on flights) we will meet for a welcome dinner at our accommodation. This gives us the opportunity to chat about some of the opportunities that will be coming our way, along with the arrangements for the following day’s travel.
Day 2 Sao Paulo - SouthWild Pantanal
This morning we will have an early start as we fly from Sao Paulo to Cuiaba. Cuiaba is the capital of the state of Mato Grosso and is widely referred to as the “Gateway to the Pantanal”. Once we arrive in Cuiaba we will meet our local guide, who will provide our road transfer to SouthWild Pantanal lodge. Transfer time is approximately 3 hours. This is our accommodation for the evening.
After settling into our rooms, we will be heading out for our afternoon activities, where we are likely to encounter capybaras, caiman, a multitude of bird species including heron, stork and we may spot some kingfisher dive-bombing the water in search of dinner. Speaking of dinner, once we return from our little cruise, if we’re lucky we may be in time to spot a local Ocelot who comes to visit at feeding time.
Day 3 SouthWild Pantanal - Jaguarland
After breakfast this morning we have a ground transfer to Porto Jofre. From Porto Jofre we hop on a small boat out to the Naturezas ship, that will be our home for the next four nights. After settling into our cabins and a bite of lunch, we head off for the first of our Jaguar Boat Outings. Each of these outings are approximately 4 hours in length and the boats we use not only allow us access to the shallower parts of the river, but are purpose built for photographers, with swivel seats and gimbals attached.
Days 4 - 5 Jaguarland
The next two days will see us participating in Jaguar Boat Outings in both the morning and afternoons; with each trip approximately 4 hours in duration. Should there be a day when you would prefer a sleep in or a “lazy afternoon”, you are more than welcome to do so, it is always your choice whether to participate in an activity or not.
Day 6 Jaguarland
This morning will be our final venture out on the Jaguar Boat, so this is the chance to grab that great action shot you’ve been waiting for. Once back we’ll enjoy a nice lunch before heading off the Naturezas to a private ranch. Here we’ll be in search of the maned wolf, native to a number of South American countries, though in danger of extinction in some. Despite appearing somewhat like a fox, they are neither fox or wolf, but rather a canine with similar features.
Following our afternoon on the ranch, we will head back to the Naturezas for dinner and a well-earned rest.
Day 7 Jaguarland - Campo Grande
Following breakfast this morning, we say goodbye to the Naturezas for our short boat transfer back to Port Jofre where we will see a bird spectacle with some macaws and maybe a toucan or two. We now head back to Cuiaba via road transfer in time for a 5.10pm flight to Campo Grande. We expect to arrive at 9.50pm and hop on our transfer to the hotel for evening.
Day 8 Campo Grande - Bonito
After a late night getting in, a somewhat leisurely start today for breakfast before we drive to Bonito. Here we will check into our accommodation at Pousada Olho D’Agua, which will be home for the next two nights.
In the afternoon we will be searching for Giant Anteaters until dusk, before returning for the night.
Day 9 Bonito
A real treat this morning for all the bird lovers as we head off to Macaw Canyon. In this huge sinkhole that is Macaw Canyon, there are hundreds of brightly coloured Macaw that swoop past our vantage spots allowing for some wonderful action shots.
Once we’ve had our fill of Macaw Canyon, we will venture off to Rio do Peixe. Here the landscape photographer in you can emerge as we wind our way through the 2.8 kms of park trails containing 10 waterfalls, pools and streams as we move along the trails it might be a great time to take a swim in the pools, take a photo from the grotto behind a waterfall, or for the young at heart, take a zip line to the water. Of course, you may choose just to enjoy the trail and what you find along the way.
Day 10 Bonito - Campo Grande
This morning will be our last chance to photograph the Giant Anteaters, before we make our way back to Campo Grande and our accommodation for the night.
Day 11 Campo Grande - Iguazu
A very early start today as we fly to Campo Grande to Iguazu. Following lunch, we will spend the afternoon visiting the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls. The falls creates the natural boundary between Brazil and Argentina, with both sides offering very different features. The Brazilian sides offers less trails or walkways but clearly provides the more expansive views.
Time to check into our accommodation for the next two nights, the palatial Belmond das Cataratas.
Day 12 Iguazu Falls
After a leisurely breakfast, we venture to the Argentinian side of the falls, the highlight of which is ‘The Devils Throat’; a fall with a drop of some 80m, that seems to act as a vortex, drawing in much of the water from its tributaries. You will have the opportunity the follow a number of the trails, capturing many different falls and vantage points along the way. Prior to heading back to your accommodation, there will be lunch and a chance to take in a hummingbird show.
Day 13 Iguazu - Home
Sadly we’ve reached the end of our trip. Today finds us having a leisurely breakfast and we will have the opportunity to enjoy the morning at the hotel before flying out of Iguazu at 2.50pm, arriving at Sao Paulo at 4.35pm, where we will farewell new friends and take home many memories.
